Weekly Weird Kings Dominion Stuff

This is where I talk about random KD stuff.

WARNING- THIS IS MY FAVORITE KD MOMENT EVER AND YOU WILL THINK IT IS SUPER FUNNY!

March 26, 2009

Last year I met these two girls about my age (21), at Kings Dominion "Halloween Haunt".  One seemed very drunk and the other who I perceived to be her sidekick was very quiet and a little bit creepy (but not as creepy as the awesome Madhouse maze at the front of the park).  The Rebel Yell was in the process of switching out trains (takes about 20 minutes), so we had I lot of time to talk.  My friend, Andrew was with me, and he had a little crush on the drunken one.  I could tell they were hammered when the leader one said she was Kikawana from Alaska and when she had her middle finger up, yelling "Sarah Palin is a murderer!" on the Grizzly.  This was quite odd considering she was quite flirty and calm in the queue of the Grizzly.  They said they were going to ride Drop Tower assuming they did not get thrown out of the park after a ride on the Grizzly.  I wanted to get away, so Andrew and I ran to the Rebel Yell.  On the way we saw them both on the Carousel; the drunken one yelled out my name and the creepy sidekick flicked me off!  Once Andrew and I got off the Rebel Yell, we saw some dude was walking them out of the park!  IDK if it was a KD official (did not have KD clothes on) or someone else, but I was tempted to go up and tell the dude "IDK who you are, but I will just warn you those two are a handful!”  I thought he might be associated with them and kick my ash; making me miss out on the rest of Halloween Haunt at night (the best time to go to Kings Dominion for scares and great ride experiences!).  I hope you enjoyed this true story and I hope you all have a good weekend!

I finally got a chance to watch the program on one of the Home Improvement networks about Kings Dominion.  It was actually pretty good.  The host inspected the Dominator with the B&M ball (look it up).  Then he helped remove and re- grease Drop Zone, change a small piece of Rebel track out (they said it was the oldest coaster there, but they are incorrect it is Scooby Doo's Ghoster Coaster which opened in 1974; Rebel Yell opened in 1975), and finally climbed up Xtreme Skyflyer (scroll down to see first post) and repaired it.  Man I wish I was him!

If you went to KD last year, did you notice the Hypersonic Station from Grizzly’s entrance walk?  I wonder what they will do with it.  The old Drachen Fire station and train house at Busch Gardens Williamsburg were turned into Halloscream mazes, but Hypersonic's station was a bit smaller if I'm not mistaken.  Maybe it will be a new station for their rumored hyper coaster or another coaster in the future.  With the station being small, they would probably need to modify it to make it work.  Whatever they do with it is still standing so they must have some plans for it.

P.S- Check out my new website at https://kingsdominion.tripod.com/amusementparknewz/ and my new blog at https://kingsdominion.tripod.com/blog/ they are both awesome!

Have you guys heard that KD is going to be featured on a DIY network show?  That’s all I have heard so far, but I have it set up to record.  Maybe next week I will give you some more info. on the homepage.  On a side note, I am psyched about KD opening for the 2009 season with their new additions Americana and El Dorado.  You know, I actually may ride them by the time the seasons over or at least by 2010.  Thanks for checkin out the sight and have a very great day and a somewhat okay day after.

Today I have to talk about a MAJOR regret I have about a certain coaster (I'm not crying just yet, o no here comes the water works, jk I'm not that devastated).  I unfortunately never got to ride Hypersonic XLC before it was dismantled (hey maybe that’s the HYPER coaster they are talking about in 2010).  From videos on the internet I can tell I would have loved it.  That’s why it's on my favorite coaster list on the nav. bar.  In its last year (2007 also Paramount's last year; not a coincidence) I was going to ride it, but I was too scared and it kept breaking down (part of the reason it closed).  I have heard it is still in KD's graveyard.  I wish I could go and mourn it even though coasters don't get buried; they just sit there and rot until someone finds something to do with them, and with scrap metal cheap as a dollar store it will probably just sit there and cure for a while.  I will always miss Hypersonic and how you could stand under the massive hill are watch from the diner or somewhere else to watch it blast off into the sky. R.I.P Hypersonic XLC 2001-2007.

Kings Dominion coaster conspiracy alert (I probably could have worded that better).  Have you ever seen KD commercials that say they have fourteen coasters?  If you count them (in no order Dominator, Volcano, Rebel Yell, Hurler, Grizzly, Anaconda, Avalanche, Back lot Stunt Coaster, Scooby Doo's Ghoster Coaster, Shockwave, Flight of Fear, Ricochet, and Taxi Jam) it is only 13.  My guess is that they count both sides of Rebel Yell to make 14, but that is very sneaky.  Think about it if we had kept our three dead coasters (see nav. bar) we would be tied with Cedar Point for the most coasters in one amusement park and if we got a hyper coaster in 2010 we would have the most for one park in the world.  I doubt Cedar Fair would let anyone dethrone "The Point" though.

Everyone goes to KD and wonders "What the heck does Kings Dominion mean?"  Well now you don't have to cry (everyone has a different way of dealing with it) and wonder.  Well here’s your answer; in case you don't live or like Virginia its nickname is Old DOMINION.  That’s the last part of the name but why Kings?  Kings comes from KD's sister park KINGS Island (its name comes from its location on the former sight if KING powder company, Island comes from the former Cincinnati’s Coney ISLAND). There is your answer America so have a great day and stop crying about it.

Have you ever rode on the Xtreme Skyflyer ride.  It is very overpriced, but is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone who loves thrills.
