A Tribute to the 3 Dead KD Coasters

R.I.P. Three dead KD Coasters

Before you read this read the column to your right.

1.   Galaxie: Galaxie was opened in 1975 along with the rest of KD.  It was made by S.D.C and was a common (not unique) model of coaster that was located at many parks across the world.  After a horrible accident (no I don’t know what happened) in which a person died on Galaxie, the Galaxie was closed.  The Shockwave coaster now stands on the Galaxie’s former grounds.  Galaxie was relocated to the now defunct Myrtle Beach Pavilion until 1997 in which it was closed forever.  It whereabouts are now unknown.

2. King Kobra: King Kobra was built at Kings Dominion in 1977. It featured one loop (KD’s first looping coaster) and a 53 mph weight drop launch.  Like the previously mentioned Galaxie, it is a common model of coaster that is not unique to King Kobra called a Shuttle Loop.  After its removal from KD in 1986 it was relocated to Jolly Roger Amusement Park and Alton Towers and finally is now at a park in Brazil (Hopi Hari).

3.  Hypersonic XLC: Hypersonic XLC was a prototype coaster made by S&S Power with a 133 feet, 90 degree drop.  At the cost of $15,000,000, it debuted at KD in 2001 and was closed after the 2008 season due to reliability problems.  It featured a launch of 80mph making it the fastest coaster at Kings Dominion until it was closed.  Until recently Hypersonic was for sale, but no one wanted it so they took it off the market.  As far as I know it is still in the KD graveyard.

In case you are freaked out and think someone is killing rollercoasters or some other weird daydream you are a little crazy.  This section is a tribute to three former KD coasters who are now either somewhere else or are scrapped and made into your car
